I am in Oregon! We get what is called an initial license for the first 5 years (now 10 or something, they change it all the time), then, we either have to have 45 credits or get a Master's degree. When I graduated 5 years ago, we did not have that choice, so I started my Master's, which I just finished--I was so far, I wasn't going to stop! It is a lot of work, but it feels good to be done and know that when I take more classes now, it is because I want to, not because my license requires it. That makes sense. I am in Oregon! I should be done in August of this year... once I get the 2 yr license and teach for 1 yr, I will get evaluated and then if I pass that, I will get a 5 yr license... from there I have to either take classes every year to keep it up or go for my Master's... which is probably what I will do since Ashland offers a Master's program. Are you in Ohio too? Sometimes I feel like i will be in school forever. Does 2 year license mean you will only be a teacher for two years, or it will only take two years? It is hard, simply because of all the work and dealing with kids pretty much 24 hours a day, but I still enjoy it, I can't imagine doing anything else at this point! I do only work part time, which makes life much easier, except kindergarten really isn't a part time job, I probably work a minimum of 10 hours a week over what I am paid for, but it is either that or not feel prepared, and I need that! I sent my transcripts to Ashland Univ and they came back and said I only need 21 more hours to achieve the 2 year license...
